Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied Sports conducts adventure activities for Indian participants and Foreign participants separately. In addition to following courses, the DMAS also conducts special activities mentioned below.

Adventure Activities for Indian Participants

Following activities are conducted by the DMAS for Indian participants. 




Adventure Camp:
It is a short duration requirement based course in which trainees are given exposure in rock climbing (natural and artificial), rappelling, river crossing, trekking, camping and development of leadership qualities etc. 

 

 

Duration 5 to 10 days as required
Age 12 years and above

Adventure Course:
It is a 14 days duration graded course in which trainees are given exposure in rock climbing (natural and artificial), rappelling, river crossing, obstacles course, trekking, camping, map reading, survival, cooking, team building, leadership, debate, discussion, mountain hazards and living of the land etc.

Mountaineering Course: It is a 26 days duration graded course in which trainees are given exposure in rock climbing, river crossing, high altitude trekking, camping, snow and ice craft and finally the trainees are taken to height/ peak upto 17,000 feet depending on their physical fitness and weather conditions.

Water Sports Course: It is requirement based short duration course in which the trainees are given exposure in all types of swimming, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, boating and sailing etc. in still water.

Snow Skiing Course: It is short duration requirement based course for beginners. Trainees are imparted training in elementary techniques of skiing like ski exercises, sliding on skis, straight running, side slip, snow plough and turn, fall and recovery.

Summer Skiing Course: Requirement based summer skiing courses are conducted at Manali in which trainees are given exposure in elementary/ basic techniques, trekking, camping, rock climbing and river crossing. Summer skiing is conducted at higher altutude depending upon the snow conditions available.

Adventure Activities for Foreign Participants

Following activities are conducted by the DMAS for Foreign participants on requirement basis.


Adventure Camps: 
                                

Duration 7 to 10 days
Period May to November
Package i)   Manali local sight-seeing
ii)  Natural and artificial rock climbing and pappelling
iii) River Crossing
iv) Trekking to one of the following
    Solang- Dhundhi- Beaskund 3540 mtr- Glacier and back
    Manali- Kothi- Marhi- Rohtang Pass 3980 mtr and back
    Manali- Naggar- Chanderkhani Pass 3960 mtr- Malana- Jari and back
    Manali- Jagatsukh, Seri- Chandertal 4480 mtr- Base of Deo Tibba peak and back
Note i)  The package will be of 7 to 10 days duration. However, to include 
    Ice Climbing training on glacier, it will require another 5 to 7 days
ii)  Such adventure camps can be organised any where all over Himachal Pradesh
    if required.

 

Himalayan Climbing Camps: 
                                

Duration 2 to 3 weeks
Period May to November
Package i)    Rock Climbing, Rappelling, River Crossing at Manali
ii)   Ice Climbing at Beas Kund glacier 3540 mtr
iii)  5 to 7 days ice climbing training at Beas Kund will be followed by an 
     attempt on a peak above 5500 mtr
Note i)  Such Himalayan climbing camps can be organised on different glaciers in 
    Himachal i.e. Manali, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Bharamaur region as required.

 

High Altitude Treks: 

Trek across any Pass in Himachal Pradesh can be conducted like followings:

Note The participant has to have:
      a)  Experience in high altitude trekking/ mountain climbing depending 
           upon the selected trek/ pass by the group
      b)  Jeep Safari with the trek can also be combined with the treks
      c)  Any other pass in Himachal or leading to Leh and Uttaranchal
      d)  Suggested period may to October. Duration required one week or more

 

Mountaineering Expedition: 
                   

There are number of challenging Himalayan peaks in Himachal Pradesh. Based on the technical difficulties the peaks are divided under following 2 categories.
1 Trekking Peaks
     Between 5000 mtr to 6000 mtr. The climbers will need basic mountaineering experience
2 Peaks above 6000 meters
     The climbers has to have good experience in Rock Climbing and Ice Climbing techniques
     Some of the prominent and challenging peaks located in Himachal Pradesh are:

ii)    Deo Tibba 6001 mtr
iii)   Kullu Pumori 6553 mtr
iv)   Mulkila Peaks 6000 to 6517 mtr  (M-Series: M1 to M10)

vi)   C-B groups of peaks 6000 to 6300 mtr (CB1 to CB58)
vii)  Bara Shinghri parbat 6526 mtr
viii) Manthosa 6443 mtr

Note a)  Good climbing experience required and duration will be two or three weeks
b)  Peak climbing clearance through Indian Mountaineering Foundation 
     can be arranged by the DMAS
c)  Para gliding and river rafting can also be organised for the participants
     depending upon the season
d)  Duration is May to October

 

Climbing Expedition for Elderly People: 

Duration 2 to 3 weeks

White Water Rafting: 

Duration 5 to 10 days
Period April to June, September to November
Package All logistic arrangement for conduct of White water Rafting in all rivers of Himachal Pradesh

 

Alpine and Cross Country Skiing:

Package Complete package with boarding, lodging, instructor, camping and equipment etc.
